Robot Rose is a service robot. A service robot is meant to perform Activities of Daily Life. The service robot is controlled by a human from a distance; this means that the robot is tele-operated. The service robot can perform all kinds of activities. Typical examples of these activities are opening a door, fetching a news paper, fetching a walking cane, fetching a plate or cutlery, or cleaning the table. The service can perform a number of tasks autonomously after receiving a command from the operator. However the autonomy of the robot is limited to a couple of minutes. After that the operator has to send a new command to the robot.
Robot Rose was developed in two and a half years (september 2009 - juli 2012) within the research project TSR: Tele-operated Service Robot. This project was subsidized by the Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch province Noord-Brabant. The goal of this project was to develop a prototype robot for the home-care domain.

Mid 2012 Rose can be controlled from a distance, from a care center. This means a trained home-care employee can control the robot from any remote location. Rose is controlled by means of a so called cockpit consisting of a PC with joystick to drive manually and a Space Navigator to control the arms manually. Besides manual control rose has autonomous functions for amongst others, picking up objects, putting down objects, opening doors, opening a bottle, picking up objects with two arms at the same time and cleaning the table with a cloth. To perform these tasks the operator has to indicate on the screen which object has to be manipulated and the robot performs the task after the push of a button.
From 2013 Rose BV develops a limited number of robot Rose, cockpits and Software for research institutions en will, if neccesary deliver support to robot Rose both in hardware and in software. For more information please contact us.
